La Restinga Lagoon National Park is located in the middle of Isla Margarita in between the populated eastern half and the relatively deserted Macanao Peninsula on the western side of the island.

We visited the Laguna De La Restinga Parque Nacional during the Road Unlimited 4X4 Jeep Tour of Isla Margarita.

At the time of our visit, a 30 minute boat ride through La Restinga Lagoon cost 50,000 Bolivares (about $15-25) or 70,000 ($20-$30) Bs. for an hour long ride.

The boat tour included a guided passage through the mangrove canals and an optional visit to La Restinga Beach.

All of the canals or "tunnels" have love themed names such as "Tunel De Los Enamorados" (Lovers Tunnel).

Some of the wildlife that can be seen on a La Restinga Lagoon boat tour include pelicans, bright red starfish, seahorses, and seagulls. Most of the boat captains will pull over to the mangroves and find seahorses or starfish for the tourists to examine.

If you're not with a tour group, the price of admission into La Restinga is just a $2 national park entrance fee. Laguna De La Restinga is also a good place to shop for souvenirs since there are several vendors set up near the main entrance. We bought two very nice Margarita Island beach towels including one that has a map of the island on it.
